Exposition Closer Up - Albert Nanning
01.05.09 - 15.05.09
Photographer Albert Nanning grew up in Groningen and became involved with photography and film during his study Dutch Language and Literature. He took a course in black and white photography and was occupied as a film programmer at a students movie theater for several years. He now lives and works in Amsterdam. Nanning is self-taught. From 2004 he has focused fully on digital photography.
His work is characterized by a strong emphasis on framing, line play and shooting from extreme angles. This resulted in his mirror collages that are both striking and intriguing, often with very powerful colors. Nanning creates new forms that originate from ordinary, sometimes even unnoticed objects: fire escapes, rusty containers, details of buildings. "It's nice to give meaning to things that had little or no meaning before. Sometimes it's like giving life to dead objects," according to the photographer. The outcome of a collage is never certain, they continue to surprise. |
